Hanging Lights DIY
Most Christmas lights are hung outside for the world to see. However, it can be a daunting task, especially if you are doing it on your own. Your outside display should be perfect. Here’s how to get started.
- You should begin by deciding how many lights you will need for your project. You can start by measuring every area of your exterior to get the length. You will need to measure door facings, windows and walls to get the correct amount.
- Get your supplies. Of course, you will need Christmas lights to complete your display. However, do you want traditional? Do you want colored lights? Besides that, you will need light clips, a ladder or stool depending on the area, timers if you want to time your lights out at night or during the day, a light hanging pole, etc. Make a list before you start shopping to make sure you get everything on the first trip.
- Start hanging your lights. You will want to start from the top and go to the bottom to make sure you have plug-ins for your lights to work. Also, it can be difficult to try and start from the bottom and work your ladder upwards, instead of down. Make sure you check your lights prior to hanging them as well to make sure there are no dead bulbs. One dead bulb can keep your lights from working properly, resulting in fire hazards and a dead display.
- Turn them on. Once you have all of your lights hung, it is now time for the show! You can invite all of your friends and family over for a lighting ceremony. Any excuse for a potluck is a good one!
